In Feb 2021 an option agreement with Evolution Mining was announced to evaluate and potentially commence environmental rehabilitation of the silver stockpiles at Mt Carlton Plant.
With walk up drill targets of Ag grades up to 37kg/t and previous drilling highlights including 27.2m @ 290.7g/t Ag and 13m @ 214gt Ag, Ukalunda is a high grade mine opportunity. Ukalunda’s silver potential is underlined by the 600,000 ounces of silver that were previously mined out of the Sunbeam Silver Mine on the tenement.
A 24 holes reverse circulation drilling program totaling 2,661 m was completed at the White’s Hope, Rosenthal, Walhalla and Carrington prospects during January and February 2016. This completed Phase 1 of a more extensive proposed drilling program. A total of 1473 samples were submitted for assay.
The stand-out results were at White’s Hope and Carrington. At White’s Hope potentially ore grade gold was intersected in WHC003 with 11 metres of 1.4g/t Gold (Au), including a 3m down hole length of 3.6g/t Au and 2m at 5g/t Au. Previously unknown zinc mineralization was also discovered including one metre intervals of 11.8% and 4.1% Zn. The results suggested that the ore zone may plunge to the NW from the south-eastern pit. The gold mineralization in this area is a new discovery.
The Ukalunda tenement (EPM 18019) lies midway between the Lake Dalrymple/Burdekin Dam and the historic Wirralie gold mine, which produced 1.1 million ounces of gold.
The Ukalunda permit area is easily accessible. The tenement is located near the mining town known as Charters Towers, which offers the Company labour and materials. Although the exploration staff will camp in the bush whilst working, it is possible to get to Charters Towers and back in a day. Any other services required are available in Townsville, the third largest city in Queensland, which is approximately 45 minutes away by helicopter.
